Internal Dry Lining

A cost-effective method of insulating your home

The process involves using solid or hollow block walls which can reduce heat loss through your walls by up to 30%. Internal insulation, commonly known as dry-lining or warm boarding consists of a layer of insulation that is specially fixed to the internal structure of your house, This insulation will reflect any heat escaping through your walls back into the living space of the home. The end result is a reduction of heat loss and increased comfort in your home.

In order to qualify for internal insulation, all walls must be clear of fixings, this certainly is a more disruptive method for some homeowners. Therefore it is the recommended insulation method for those with solid or hollow block walls, this is most appropriate for homes undergoing renovations. Our expert team of surveyors will review your current needs and consider whether or not this is the best process for your home.

Internal wall insulation

Solid walls can also be insulated by applying internal wall insulation. Types include ready made insulation/plaster board laminates or wooden battens in-filled with insulation.

How internal wall insulation works

Insulation/plaster board laminates usually consist of plasterboard backed with insulating material typically to a total thickness of up to 90mm. The construction of the laminates reduces the amount of heat which would otherwise pass through into the wall and outside.

The savings

Internal wall insulation can be cheaper than external wall insulation and you could save around £365 a year on your energy bill.

A three bedroom semi-detached house could save around 1.8 tonnes of CO 2 a year.

The Internal Insulation Process

Internal insulation is a fast and simple process when planned correctly. It can come at no major inconvenience to any homeowner. The process follows a strict and precise routine all designed to make the task as safe as possible

  • All prep works are carried out including removal of radiators, skirting boards, coving, all electrical sockets etc.
  • The insulated warm board is applied to the wall.
  • Steel pegs/fixings are used to fix the board into place.
  • Ventilation is installed.
  • Wall will then be skimmed with hardwall.
  • All fixtures are reinstated.
  • We review all jobs post-work to ensure the highest level of service.
